Macadamia Micropropagation

Macadamia plants are notoriously difficult to propagate through tissue culture. There are no commercial propagation systems, and the literature documenting successful tissue culture is extremely limited. During my time at Tissue-Grown Corporation, I developed tissue culture systems for several macadamia varieties.

Macadamia Micropropagation
Although the market for macadamia was not large enough to significantly impact our company, we successfully produced tens of thousands of plants that had never been commercially propagated through tissue culture before. Despite the market size, I was proud to have developed a commercial production system for another notoriously difficult-to-micropropagate plant.

This technology could be extremely valuable for a company with greater access to the macadamia market, such as those in Australia. Unfortunately, due to the challenges of shipping plants internationally into certain markets, we couldn't sell these plants in large numbers. Nonetheless, the technology is impressive.
